Cultivating Scenius: Where Creativity and Learning Thrive

Creative work doesn’t happen in isolation—and neither does learning.

One of the ideas I keep coming back to is “scenius”—the collective genius of a creative community.

It’s the energy of the studio, the hallway conversations, the shared folders, the quiet encouragement, the questions that make you pause.

As educators, we can’t manufacture scenius. But we can create the conditions for it to emerge.

We can design spaces that invite students to share before they’re ready, listen generously, and see collaboration as part of the process—not just the outcome.

When students feel seen and supported, they take more creative risks.

And that’s where the real work begins.
